Newark Man John Mathis and Three Others Injured in Crash on Christiana Road in Newark

Newark, Delaware (August 7, 2017) – A man was seriously injured in a car crash early Sunday morning in Newark.

The crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. August 6, on DE Rt. 273 (Christiana Road) in front of Denny’s Restaurant in McIntosh Plaza.

The crash occurred as 47-year-old John Mathis who was driving a 2003 Acura TL westbound along the road was attempting to turn left into the restaurant’s parking lot when he collided head-on with an eastbound 2006 Dodge Ram.

Mathis and two other victims were treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being rushed to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted with fatal injuries.

The driver of the dodge, a 37-year-old man and his passenger a 25-year-old woman were treated and released.

Delaware state police are still investigating the incident.
